[Kahani Punjab]

Hi all,

This post belongs to my friend who died 2 years back. It can be a tribute to that person, with a clean, honest and selfless heart. He was just a shopkeeper, but had a keen sense of everything, almost everything in the world. He used to read newspapers - Punjabi, Hindi and even English, a very high-level language, as it is presumed in our area. So, he was MANJIT. He met me, less than a decade back, when I was a science student, and he would often ask/enquire me about the etiology of different things happening in the world, e.g. why we sleep? Why we eat? Why earth trembles sometimes? etc. etc. etc. Everytimes, he got the cause of the object or incident, he asked, his eyes would glow with surprise and joy. He was just matriculate, as family circumstances forced him to sit in shop and say bye to his studies, but still he continued enhancing his general knowledge through whatever means he got his hands on, from newspapers, magazines, journals to books, radio and TV. Computer is a far cry in our area. Rare people know what internet is!

Now, after this tribute, the main question - One day, Manjit told me that he could foresee earthquakes. He told me that his whole body felt some sort of unbearable pressure. It would made him awake all the night, trembling and bearing it up, all. It used to happen, but by and by, he noted that every night, he experienced it, the next day, there was EARTHQUAKE somewhere. By and by, he started concentrating upon the correlation and started finding the tentative direction and intensity of the quake to take place. Many of his predictions came true. He asked me to do something so that his services could be used to SAVE the victims. But, no institution, to which I wrote gave any positive (or any, atleast) reply or reaction. At that time, I had neither computer, nor internet, what to talk of AMHD. Now, when I have all these, Manjit is no more. He died one deadly evening, perhaps committing suicide, out of pressure from his parents, who always blamed him for distracting from business by concentrating on reading and quake.

My query is - Was he right, when he was claiming that he could foresee quake? Is there any such example in the whole world, where some person had any such sixth sense, if we can call it so. Or, was he one in the world? Can there be any link b/w his death and pre-quake sensations in his body? His corpse showed no apparent signs of his committing suicide, so his death can't for sure be taken as self-murder. Moreover, he was found dead, near the bus stand, fell off from his cycle, his cycle lying aside, on the road, very close to him.

I want you to solve this riddle or puzzle. Also share your experiences, so that I can feel some relief, as I feel pressure or guilty of not helping him in saving the prospective victims of quakes in the world, from their unlucky fates.

From what I have read, animals sense coming earthquakes. I have not done any research on this, but perhaps that is in your future. I'm sure there are many testimonials and stories and perhaps scientific evidence on the Internet.

My opinion is that Manjit could indeed sense a coming earthquake.
