    Roommate rights
Here is my Dilemma.. Me, my mom and her boyfriend moved into an apartment together about a year ago. All three of our names are on the lease, and we split the rent 3 ways every month. I always pay my portion of the rent on the first. I met my girlfriend about 6 months ago, and we recently got engaged so now she is my fiancŽe. The problem is my mom is telling me that my fiancŽe is not allowed to spend the night or even come into the apartment.. Legally is she allowed to do this? As I stated I am on the lease, I pay rent and also half of all the bills. My fiancŽe and I do plan on getting our own place but seeing that I am a tenant on the lease I would have to wait till the lease is up or talk to my landlord directly about getting taken off it. I live In Pennsylvania...

Probably not. As a co-tenant, she has no more right to dictate your guest rules than you have to dictate hers.

I assume there is nothing in the lease prohibiting you from having a guest overnight. Right? And you are an adult?

It does seem hypocritical of her, if she is objecting on moral grounds while she lives there with a "boyfriend" to whom she is not married. Or could it be that she simply doesn't like your fiancée?

She doesn't like my fiancée for what reason I do not know. I went over and talked to the landlord and I am allowed to have guests 14 out of 45 days. My mother was right there when she said it and that her problem with my fiancée is a family issue not a landlord/tenant issue and she has to go by the laws. Even after all of this my mother looks at me and says "If you bring him in my house, you're out of here." I asked the lndlord can she do that and my landlord said "no absolutely not." Anyhow I go downstairs last night and everything in the kitchen and the livingroom is packed in boxes, TV, knickknacks, dishes, etc.. Which makes me wander if they are not going to try and move out. I would assume they can't have their names removed from the lease just for the simple fact that they do not like my girlfriend and she is allowed to stay here. Ans even if they would leave/move out they would still financially be responsible for their portion of the rent?? I love my mom but she has been this way with every girl I have been in a relationship.
