Hi I was wondering if it is safe to take wieght loss pills such as hoodia or phentermine for example in conjuntion wit the contraceptie pill Dianete?? :confused:

First of all, let me thank you for asking your question. Many women do not understand that certain medications can lessen the effect of birth control pills.

With that said, it seems as though both of these are safe to take while on the pill. However, let me warn you about both hoodia and phentermine, please read below.

Hoodia has not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, or purity. All potential risks and/ or advantages of Hoodia may not be known. Additionally, there are no regulated manufacturing standards in place for these compounds. There have been instances where herbal/ health supplements have been sold which were contaminated with toxic metals or other drugs. Herbal/ health supplements should be purchased from a reliable source to minimize the risk of contamination.

Phentermine is habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication, and withdrawal effects may occur if you stop taking it suddenly after several weeks of continuous use. Talk to your doctor about stopping this medication gradually.

I know of several people taking phentermine right now and it was worked WONDERS for them. One girl in my nursing class has lost 55 pounds since August.
