    1040nr or 1040ez
    Hi Atlanta,

    Many thanks for the service.

I came to US on H1B on April, 16th 2006 and my wife joined me on Sep 5th 2006.
I am having 3 W2 forms for the year 2006 from April 16.

I would like to file jointly and could you please suggest me to use 1040EZ or 1040NR for
    Federal tax returns?

    Thanks
    Venkata

You can file jointly with your wife and choose to be treated as resident aliens. There are statements that have to be attached to the return to make this election.

    Hi AtlantaTaxExpert,

Thanks for the help. Could you please let me know the statements that have to be
Attached? Am I eligible for the standard deduction along with my wife?

    Regards,

If you file jointly, you are eligible for the double standard deduction of $10,300.

The statements are described in IRS Pub 519, which can be downloaded from Internal Revenue Service.
