I am sorry, no, if you have no idea how to change out the main breaker box of your home you have no business even thinking about it or trying.

First you have to get all the power to the home disconnected by the power company,

There is far too much danger for someone without training to try this

Well Toby you begin by getting an electrical permit. Then you have to have the Power Companies permission to pull the meter on your home. Some locations will not allow a home owner to do this work. Sometimes Power Companies will either pull the meter for you or require that you get a licensed electrician to pull the meter.

Next, you have to know the type of meter box and kit to order and the cover for it. Also whether you will need a Main Breaker or a Main Lug Only panelboard.

Then you get to order the proper number of AFCI breakers and GFCI breakers because this is an upgrade. That means the panelboard must be brought up to the code level that has been approved in your area.

Finally, you get to go to work. You need to pull the old panelboard out and reconnect each cable to the new panel board also, you need to find out if the age of the cable will require you to re-do all of the wiring in your home.

For example, if your home is wired with, "Knob and Tube", it all has to come out.

When it's all done, and you have passed an inspection, then you can ask the power company to reinstall your meter.
