    Toilet Tank Cracked
The suggested solution did not work. The crack fracture had started at the bolt and traveled along the bottom and up the side. I ended up having to replace the toilet. Thank you for y'all for the time and trouble to answer my question. Best of Luck. Regards.

Hi Sager and welcome to The Plumbing Page on AMHD.
You piggybacked on a 5 year old dead thread so I gave you one of your own. Before you post look in the upper left hand corner for the date..
I really wish you had contacted us before you purchases a complete toilet. I can also tell you why your old tank cracked.
In cracked tanks I give advice on exposing the tank but I always recommend replacing the tank. Not the whole toilet but just the tank. These can be purchased seperatly without the added expense of the bowl.
Now! Why did the old tank crack and why the new tank will do the same thing unless you follow directions.
There's always a small space behind the tank and the wall. When we install a tank we always leave a little "give" in the tank bolts. The reason being that if you crank the bolts a strain will be put on the floor of the tank around the tank bolts and will crack the china tank floor around the bolts the first time someone leans back. If you have tightened the bolts so that there's no play go back and loosen them a tad so when you push the tank back it will hit the wall and not crack the tank. Good luck, Tom
