Do I have an infection (after childbirth)?
I had a vaginal delivery of my baby girl 8 days ago, and my bleeding had been regular and not heavier than a period. Two days ago I noticed a odor. The bleeding has not gotten heavier but the smell hasn't gone away. Can my lochia smell bad? Is it an infection?

    Hi janswers,

Firstly let me say many congratulations on the birth of your baby daughter.
If your lochia has an unpleasant smell or you have a fever and/or chills, you could have an infection.

If the bleeding stays heavy and bright reddish after the first week, your tummy feels tender-low down, on one or both sides, then again there could be infection.

If you feel that the above symptoms apply to you, you could have an infection.

Call your midwife/doctor, who can examine you and correctly diagnose your condition, and if necessary perscribe the appropriate medication.
