Any ideas how I can research my home's previous occupants?
Since I can remember, there have been ghosts in my house, not one or two, but at least 4 or 5. I can't find my home's history anywhere, what government websites can I look at?

I know some of the ghosts mean no harm, two are small children that touch the scar on my foot when I'm trying to sleep andthey like messing with the TV. They also block the light in the door leading out back at night, but I know they mean no harm.

I feel the want attention or to play, they never leave that room though, which is weird since it's an addition we added on about 20 years ago. There is a man in a trench coat, with a smaller top hat who has been following me in the house and wherever I stay overnight for the past 14 years, he only gave me a bad vibe once when he came over my head and covered my face with a trench coat, knocking cold air into me.

I pushed away and left, it wasn't really a bad vibe, he just freaked me out. There used to be another boy who bit my sister at night when they'd fight about her telling people about him (she couldn't have done it, the bites were human, and on the back of her calf and her back, she'd wake up screaming at night).

THE WORST, is in my old room, no one likes sleeping there, whateve it is, doesn't feel right, it has a head shaped like no human or animal I've seen, and he stares at you at night from the open attic above, giving off a creepy smile and vibe, and you can feel him crawling around there, staring and smiling at you like he can't wait to get the chance to wrap himself around you.

He comes down when we don't have a cat in the room, he'll hide in the closet and open the door over and over while you try to sleep, the door clcks shut every time, and you HAVE to turn the knob for it to open. It never opens when my cat's there though, but the cat knows he's there too, he stares at him all night, I've watched as he stares back and his head turn and follows him around the attic, scary thing.

But I REALLY want to figure out what happened here, also, kind of short on money, so I need a free or cheap way to learn what's happened here.

There is no Government website that tracks hauntings. You could check with your local library, ask for a resource concerning your property, see if there are any reports of something similar.

Your sister woke up with human bites on her leg and nobody called the Police?

The library will be your best bet, as Judy stated. Lots of towns have old archives, old copies of the town newspaper, etc. Sometimes it will be the actual copy, on micro fiche, or digitally stored.

On a side note, are you interested in finding out how to end all of this activity, and, like the Catholic Church would ask in a case like this, has everyone involved been to a mental health counselor and regular Doctor to rule out any scientific reasons for these events?

    Good luck with this.

Because police will not respond to ghost bites. Also, bites are more common than you think. I'd be more concerned about how to get rid of these spirits more so than who lived there before you. Good luck on your search!

In NY if you have an obvious, visible human bite on your leg (and I don't know what distinquishes a visible human bite from a visible ghost bite), yes, the Police are interested. It's an assault - sometimes a simple assault, sometimes a more serious category.

The Health Department also follows the treatment of someone who reports a human bite.

I am not aware that the Police look at a human bite, say "Oh, a ghost bite" and do nothing.

Well, that's the thing of course... they will never come to that conclusion. I'll say this much, if I woke up with a bite mark on my leg, I'd know if someone physical bit me or not.

Try googling "news" after typing in the home's address or local area, then do a search under "archives", you may even try doing a search under particular dates, or between different times, etc. You can also try doing a search by typing in the full address then placing quotes ("") around it, or the subject you are googling. There are also obituaries for different newspapers online as well, try searching through those in your area as well as their archives. Libraries also keep old papers on microfilm, talk to your local librarian and see if they might also have a local historian or history department or at a local university or college.
