Could I be losing my Mucas Plug?
    Hi there,

This is my second pregnancy and I am in my 24 week. It sounds weird to be asking, but I am wondering could I possibly be losing my mucas plug, early I know. I have been to the bathroom on two occasions over the weekend, and the first time, I had a glob the size of a quarter or larger of like this mucas like substance, sort of like egg white with yellow streeks in it. Then again last night, I had this glob that was very stringy, but I lot like the size of a nickel or larger.

I don't know, I just want to be safe, seeing as it is early in my pregnancy. No other worries, I have bad vericose veins only in one leg and a bit of siatica(?).. which makes it somedays very hard to walk. On Saturday I could not stand for more than 5 minutes at a time and I had to sit down, pains in my legs real bad, I just do not want to end up on bed rest.

Anyone encountered this? Let me know.
    Thanks:o

The discharge could be just that, discharge. The farther you get along in your pregnancy, the more discharge you expereince. However, it does sound (to me) as though this should definitely be something to ask your doctor immediately. It could be your mucus plug falling out early. IF it is, it could lead to many things. It could be early start to labor, it could be that if you have lost your plug, you are more susceptable to infection, incompetent cervix or other things. Anytime you have concerns about something like that, definitely call your doctor, and let them know. They will probably want to have you come in for an exam just to make sure everything is OK. This could be perfectly normal discharge, but it's always better to be safe then sorry. As far as the pain in your legs, you should also talk to your doctor about this. They like to keep an eye on vericose veins, and also look out for blood clots. Bedrest is something most of us mommies to be dread to think about, however there are times it is needed, for safety of baby and mommy. You are already half way through your pregnancy, so at least it wouldn't be the whole time if you do have to have bedrest. If you make sure that everything is good at the moment of concern, it can help avoid possibly having to take more drastic steps later. Sciatic pain is a real pain. It can really get in the way sometimes. Some things that help are, laying on one side or the other, to relieve the preasure, taking a warm bath, or shower, massage etc.(make sure your mucus plug is still in tact before taking a bath tho) sometimes baby is just laying on your nerve and laying down or moving around encourages baby to move. Sometimes its just something we have to deal with. Unfortunately.it could also be that your legs are hurting from your hips are expanding and loosening as well, and this can cause leg pain as well.putting your feet up, so that they are slightlyhigher then hip hight helps with pain and swelling in legs as well.( I am 26 weeks preggy with my second. So we are pretty close in timing) Just follow your instincts, and don't hesitate to ask questions of your doc.they are there to keep you and baby safe. Good luck!
