    Odor under the sink
For a long time there has been a smell in the kitchen sink area that smells kind of like moth balls or a strong cleaning solution. I have cleaned out under the sink and eliminated the cleaning solutions but the odor is still there.

How long have you lived in this home and how long has the odor been present? Is the smell strongest at the sink top or under it in the cabinet?

The home is 16 years old and we have lived here the entire time. The smell has been present for approximately 10 to 12 months. I can smell it while standing at the sink and also when I open the cabinet doors under the sink. We have had some leaks under the sink from a hot water dispenser but that has been fixed. It was leaking for some time before we discovered it. I am afraid it is mold and that is my worry.

Mold is my thinking too. Besides cleaning the floor of the cainet with bleach water I d. Consider prying up the cabinet floor and spray mold killer there.

Any handy person or local handyman can do this if you can not. No professional is needed, this is a low skill job.

I would first like to see if it truly is a mold smell. Who would I call to detect that?
    Thank you.

Still a handyman if you feel you can not pull up the cabiner floor yourself.
