My Great Dane is afraid of me now
Ok, so Friday I was playing with my GD, Zoe, and she is a very playful 3 year old dog. She loves to give hugs and kiss you and stuff. I was playing with her Friday and I decided to (while she was hugging me) blow on her chest and make the fart noise... she all of the sudden got real playful, wagging tail, we played some more, I did it again and again and she was having fun... (or so I thought because she was acting normal). But at the end of the night she kept running away from me and wouldn't let me touch her. I know now that she mustve been traumatized by that noise because she is frightened whenever I go to be next to her and she is beginning to nip at my face if I go to kiss her. It is very VERY unlike her... I don't want my dog to hate me, I love her very much... anyone have a similar problem and an answer?

She will get over it eventually, you just have to regain her trust.

One of my dogs absolutely hates being blown on, I did it to him a few times and he reacted much the same, wagged his tail and I assumed he was playing but really he was saying "oh mum, you are my master but please don't do that".
To this day if I inhale to deeply he still backs away thinking I'm going to blow on him and I have to reassure him that I'm not.

If she is a food lover, gain her trust back with food, if she loves toys, buy her some new ones and play with her that way. They can remember things for a long time, but they also can forget quite easily if there is something good on offer.

I agree, you can work at rebuilding the trust you had. Praise and high quality treats will bring her back to the fold in less than an hour. Do you exercise her, how much and how long? She needs exercise so tie that into the treats.

I do praise and treat her. She's my baby. (as is my other dane) I always love to hug her. She does play outside, I have a decently large fenced yard. I play frisbee with her and she LOVES that. Last night went okay, I just kept petting her, and going in for a kiss on her chest, which she was a little hesitant but allowed me to. I keep doing that so she associates it with good again. Lol ill regret doing that forever!

I love my guys too but you sometimes must remember that they are dogs. Treat them the way their pack would treat them. Hugs and kisses are a human desire but a dog can sense a hug as something to possibly fear because they do not have that same human emotional sense we have. A kiss too can be sensed as a "nip" , so keep playing and training your GD but do it in a manner that a dog will not misconstrue.
