I was told by the riverside county child support office to file for abandonment.
There has been no contact, support or visitation in 6 years and I would like his rights taken away?

If I understand this correctly, the father of your child has not been around for six years, nothing has been set up by the courts to allow him visitation, right ?

The father of you child cannot have his rights taken away; he has to relinquish his rights of his own accord. He has to be found to do this.

What state is this in? Is there a current support order through the courts?

You were misinformed. You can file to have his rights terminated, and use abandonment as grounds. But it is unlikely it will be granted. Since he is not using his rights a court will ask why they should be terminated.

There is a sticky note at the top of this forum that discusses tnis.

I am sure they mean will, abandonment is not something you will file, you can file for a change in custody and changes in visitation. Using that as grounds. Seldom will they allow him to sign his rights over and even less often would they take his rights away. But they may take away any visitation so he has no rights to see the kids.

So did you then ask them, why for 6 years they have not done their job in finding him and getting you paid ?

In 6 years how many times have you taken him to court for being in contempt of his child support order ?
