    I have to continually have to replace my residential water pump pressure switch?
    I have had the well system for 6 years and I have replaced the pressure switch ar least once a year I do have a spinkler system but the pressuer switch works corecctly until it wears out. What do you think the problem is?

    What is it that "wears out"? The springs? Do the contacts burn up? Things just get rusty? What?

    I think the points are wearing out, it been doing this for the beginning, every few months it will close but I have to tap the points and than it start the pump.

    Quite likely that sand or sediment in water is clogging pipe to switch and orifice of switch. Turn breakers off, drain tank, remove switch and clean. Make sure piping is open and not clogged or corroded inside.

    Check then tube as Harold suggested and if it's clear I may have a different take on your problem.
    If you have to replace the switch every year that indicates the contacts are burnt and pitted. If that's the case then I suspect the pumps drawing too much amperage when it starts up. I don't think the fault lies anywhere but in the motor windings. I would have a plumber take a AmProbe and test the amps your pump's pulling. Good luck, Tom
