When dealing with a remote I start by checking to see that the dip switches in the canopy receiver match the ones inside the hand held remote, likely they will. I then open the canopy and check for power coming off the receiver when the lights and fan are turned on. Black to white is your power for the fan and it should read 120 vac. Blue to white is the light and it too reads 120. Using the remote hit open fan and the black white combo should be zero vac. Hit OFF Fan and that too should drop to zero. If not insert car key in igbition and drive to Home Depot and get a universal remote kit to replace both receover and remote.

You can take the remote apart and clean the circuit board with rubbing alcohol after using a little soap and water. Where the carbon buttons touch the circuit board there sometimes is a deposit that needs gentle cleaning to get off the gunk. Also, wash the rubber pad with the carbon buttons and finish with alcohol and let dry. Then re-assemble and it will be like new. This also works for TV remotes. DrTom4444
