Thermostat is circular / manual sucker with red, white, green and blue wires. (has worked fine for 15 years with how it was hooked up).

Hi, About a week ago in 90 plus weather, the air conditioner just stopped working at night. I went to the thermostat in the morning and turned it off (from auto), then set it to fan, and the blower did not turn on. I then tried the heat out of curiousity, and that didn't work either. No sounds / or action at all (kinda like marriage :)

I went outside and flipped the circuit off/on near the unit there, then went back inside and flipped the circuit off/on for the furnace there too, still nothing. No matter what I did to the thermostat, nothing happens. I did some googling, and saw some info to disconnect the thermostat and then hook up the red and white wires directly. When I did that, I went downstairs to the furnace and took the panel off and pushed the door switch in, the following happened...

1. Green light for "power" turns on, on the IFC board
2. Green "ok" light turn on
3. Induced draft motor starts
4. Igniter warms up
5. Main burners lights, stays on for maybe 60 seconds or so, then turns off, fan/blower never starts. I wait another minute or two, nothing happens, I turn everything off, switch circuit breaker off.

Go, back upstairs to thermostat, disconnect white and red wires, then connect the red and green wires (I read that green is for the blower/fan). I go back downstairs, turn it on, hear a kind of high pitched buzzing sound, along with a kind of recurring slight beep on/off-ish. I then go upstairs, disconnect the red/green wires on thermo, then back downstairs and connect the red and green wires on the furnace, I hear the same slight high pitched noise almost like motor is stuck noise buzzing noise? (although I'm no pro - but is my guess).

I then reach in and turn the fan wheel thingy on the fan/blower by hand and it turns and spins very very easily. In the troubleshooting off the manual - it states if the indoor blower motor doesn't start, that I should check for 115VAC across the blower motor and motor terminals (heat and neutral) on IFC.

I do have a multimeter (analog), but am not sure how to test this. I'm a learn as I go type of guy, so any thoughts on what to do, best way to test? I've replaced an ignitor before a few times, and was able to troubleshoot a dryer and washer, but this is all kind of new to me. Thanks for any help.

It sounds like it's a bad capacitor or a bad relay switch. A/C units are not that complicated as they only have very few moving parts and safety devices to ensure unit does not run when components are bad. If you don't know what you are doing, by all means PLEASE call a licensed a/c tech to properly diagnose your unit and get it back on the road to cooling your home once again. You could end up making an expensive mess for someone to come and refix after you "fixed it" yourself.
