    Child Abandonment
My ex daughterinlaw left my grandchildren with me on 06/17/2011. Today is 09/06/2011 and they are still with me. She has not contributed to their support or well being, I bought their school clothes and put them in school I pay for their day care until I get in from work. Now my daughter in law wants them back. She became upset with me because she pawned something that was taken from my home (she has a drug problem) and I found out about it and threatened to press charges against her. So now DEFACS is involved and they are investigating the case. Back in June the kids were removed from her home due to an expartae order an after DEFACS investigated they turned the kids back over to her two days later on June 17 , 2011 she brings them to me and I have had them 83 days straight.

Does DEFACS consider the fact that they returned kids to her and two days later she dropped them off at my house and left them. The kids are terrified of her she has an abusive boyfriend that beats her up in front of kids, she uses drugs and rides the kids around in the car until all hours of the night with her drug buddies. She sells her food stamps and they never have groceries. The kids are 9 and 5.

Have you spoken to DEFACS yet to see where they stand in all of this? After you find that out and if they are no longer in control of the children then you may be able to seek guardianship. Also you may be able to make it a condition of that guardianship that the children are not returned to the mother unless she can pass a drugtest.

Where is the father/fathers of the children involved?

Unless you have been given temporary guardianship you have no legal right to care for the children. So you need to get temp guardianship ASAP. And the first step in that would be to contact DEFACS and enlist their aid.
