Access is denied AND losing files
I just installed a new IDE HD on my Windosws SP2 machine. Twice now, the folder that I was loading video files into disappeared! I ran a search for the video files, and windows could not find them. The last time I found the empty folder in another folder. Does this indicate a problem with the FAT files or whatever they call them these days? Can it be corrected?

Also, one folder on this drive has an access problem. Any folder that I create in this folder has about an 80% chance that I will not be able to access it. All of these folders have a check mark in the read only square that cannot be removed. When I try to open them, I get a message that says that says that the folder is not accessible. Access is denied. The only thing that I can find in the properties, is that almost all folders are read only, and that I cannot change that. I can take the check out but it reappears.

    Any help would be appreciated

It is a possibility the (Sid) security identifier from you old drive has been lost in the process of installing a new HD specifying which files you have full access to. You need to
Confirm you have ownership of the files. This is how to do it. Boot in safe mode by hitting f8 key during boot up. Right click on HD icon. Left click on properties. Go to the security tap. From there you should be able to take ownership. I do not know if this will solve the problem as it depends if we are dealing with a sid problem or not. The other suggestion is to get hold of something like "registry first aid" software which checks you registry for errors and corrects them automatically.

I can open, detele and move most of the files on the drive. It is just some of the files in one folder that are causing me the problem. I believe that an ownership issue would effect all of the files.
I just ran a registry program a few days ago because of some problmes downlaoding files. It did not cure either of the two problems that I mentioned

Thanks, but perhaps someone else may have some suggestions.
