    Water problems
My 1 year old boxer is an excessive drinker. He does not seem to know when to stop and drinks until he makes himself sick. I have limited the amount of water that he gets at any one time but he still gets sick sometimes simply from drinking too fast. I was wondering if I add a good amount of water to his food a couple times a day if that would replace the need for a bowl of water. I can't leave water out anyway because he would continue to drink it and get sick. I am having him tested for diabetes in a few weeks but I need to figure out how to make things work in the mean time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I once had a dog that did this in the hot summertime, especially when he came in from taking care of his business or exercising. After a cooling off period, I gave him ice in his water dish along with a little water, not big cubes, but bagged ice that came in different sized chunks because they were smaller pieces. He could only drink so fast around the ice and saw the chunks as treats.
It slowed him down considerably. And helped reduce the vomiting afterwards.
A trip to the vet is a great idea.
Although he is young, and less likely to develop diseases like diabetes and kidney problems it is not unheard of.
If this is a new issue with him it very well could be a health related issue that needs to be ruled out.
Not knowing how long a few weeks is, you may want to see if you can get an earlier appointment as these are issues that are best caught early. Better for him and you. And if he gets a clean bill of health you don't have so much time to worry about him before you know what's up.
    Good Luck
Of course he will need to monitered if you try it,
He may just gobble up the ice and still vomit.
    Pure judgement on your part.
