    Hi Bridget Heraty

What name brand on the faucet... Moen, Kohler, Delta, etc.

Where did you buy the faucet... home supply store, online store, from a guy selling faucets out of his van (just kidding), etc... hmmmm?

Also, did you change the water supply lines feeding the faucets or did you use the old supplies? If you did change out the supply lines, what material are the supply lines made of?

Finally, have you removed the aerator at the end of the tap spouts and cleaned them? If not, remove them and soak them in a 25% bleach solution (25% bleach to 75% water) for 10 minutes and then reinstall them.

Try the aerator fix and then post the answers to my questions and the result of cleaning the aerators, OK? This could simply be a set of taps that has been sitting around a warehouse along time and maybe picked up a little mold or something like that... maybe?

    Back to you...

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for your help, but having cleaned Aerator as suggested we are still getting the bad smell fron cold water. The faucet is a Moen and I didn't mention before but is a unit with hot and cold taps but one central flow. This is confusing as we do not get any smell when running hot water. Have you any further suggestions that might help us...

    Thanks,Bridget

Does the water in your toilet tank or bath faucet have a simialr smeel? Fill a cup from all three sources and then smell each one at a time. What did you find?

To me it sounds like you have a bad cold supply line or there is something inside the faucet that cause the smell, here is what you need to do close the angle valve under the sink, remove the cartridge or the stem, put some white vinegar inside the faucet let it soak for a few hours then turn on the water to flush the vinegar and any debris out of the faucet, next clean the cartridge or the stem with vinegar and put it in, see if the smell is gone, if not would suggest to replace the supply line and the cartridge, Good luck.

Faucets.. we have plenty of faucets (see image)!

Bridget, you didn't answer any of my questions? For what it is worth, as I questioned at the start, and as Afaroo also suggested, it could be an issue at the faucet cartridge or supply tubes... have you changed these out/cleaned them?

Otherwise, call Moen at 1800BUYMOEN and talk to the technical department and see what they think,OK?

    Back to you...

    Rosie, two fairly cheap steps:

    1. Remove the aerator and see if the smell continues. If it goes away, then you have found the problem.
    2. Replace the cold water supply line.
    3. While replacing the cold water supply line, run a cup of water directly from the angle stop (carefully) and see if that water smells. OK... that does make three steps, but they are cheap and easy.

Just some detective work to try and isolate the problem.
