My husband owns property, which has been converted into 8 flats, we live in one of them, and the rest are tenants. In recent weeks a new tenant has been making slaunderous comments about myself, and telling all the tenants I am a drug dealer, and I sit in my home all day snorting cocaine. He's slandering you.. However, unless you suffer monetary damages, you can't win a lawsuit. IF he causes some of your tenants to move because of his lies, you can sue him for that loss.

Other than that, all you can do is evict him, and I absolutely WOULD.

I would have a friendly chat with each of your other tenants, one by one, to see if you can figure out why he would do this.

I would find an online site that does background checks and have one done on HIM for about $40. He might have something up his sleeve. He might be covering up something. He might just hate all landlords because they own property and he doesn't.

I gave you your ONLY legal stance... You can't sue unless there's damages, and slander is NOT a crime where the police will get involved...

You DO have another legal option - DIVORCE, and I'd consider it when your spouse wants to give a person who lies about you a second chance.

I can't give you any legal advice here but I wanted to add something. If this person is saying that kind of stuff about you and your husband doesn't seem to care, you might have bigger problems. He should be backing you up in this case, not giving out second chances to someone like that.

Unless they are on a lease, give them a 30 day notice and evict them.
