    On OPT : 1040NR Problems
I am on OPT Since Jan 2010 and living in US since Jan 2008 . Following is my tax summary for year 2010.

Total Income : $36,000 (All from wages No other income)
    Federal tax paid : $3,600
New York State tax paid : $1,600
    Country From : India
    Living in : New Jersey

I don't know why but I didn't get any federal refund . While many of my friends got full refund for federal . I filed 1040NR and 8843 through a CPA which is not answering my phone calls now so I am in a big mess :( . I will really appreciate it if you can do some calculations and tell me

1.How much approximate federal and state refund I should get with this figures ?
    2.How much expanse I can show ? I had spent $7000 including travelling,phone bills etc. Can I file 1040NREZ ?

I totally understand that this will be just your advice and I am responsible for my own taxes .

And to add: its not clear from your message whether the taxes you cite are merely those that were withheld or whether they were the actual taxes you paid. And your personal filing status (single, MFS, MFJ) and number of exemptions also makes a difference.

Job search expenses can be deductible, but there are some criterion and limitations.

I filed as Single . These amount are taxes that were WithHold . On W-4 I had two exemptions . On for single and one for having only one job.
