    Episodic Memory
It seems to me like my episodic memory, at 23, is far less vivid than most peoples, or maybe even different. It's hard to tell I suppose. Typically, people can recall specific instances that happen a few days ago pretty vividly; yet, I feel that my memory recall of the same events are hazy at best and all I can do is summarize "the gist". On top of that, I feel like it hinders my relationships. I assert one thing, recalling one instance and then later assert the exact opposite recalling something else. Perhaps those are two unrelated issues, but it seems that if my episodic memory were sharper I'd be more in line with my assertions as well.

Is there a reason this sort of thing happens? More importantly, is there a way to sharpen my episodic memory?

Yes, keep a journal. Write down happenings at the end of each day before you go to bed. Mention how these happenings affected your five senses.
