What to do about a false police report filed against you?
I recently found out my son (16) was using Marijuana. So I banned the group of kids he was hanging around from my home, then started attending family counseling sessions with my 2 teenage sons.

Things appeared to be getting better. Until... one of the young men that is no longer allowed at my home came here and assulted one of my sons and one of his friends (2 different occasions.) Both times local authorities were called.

The boys that were "banned" from my house called the police last night and made a police report against me, stating that I have been contributing to the deliquincy of minors allowing them to smoke marijuana & drink alcohol at my home. This is absolutely NOT true!

Now I have local parents (2 different families) upset with me believing what these young men are saying, even though I have said that we will all (myself & my sons) submit to drug testing and that authorities are welcome to come through my home at anytime.

What rights do I have if someone files a false police report against me?

A report or charge is investigated and either dismissed or continued further. Baseless charges happen all the time.
I would not invite police in 'anytime' or offer to submit to drug testing, unless authorities ask you to. You don't really know what your sons have done or have stashed away, no matter what you think you know. And it's not the right approach. You deny the charges and get restraining orders against the boys who assaulted yours and who filed the report.
Keep all the neighborhood story telling as short as possible. It gets all distorted.
The police are no strangers to this sort of retaliation and shouldn't fall for every report they get.

Once the investigation is complete you can request they be prosecuted for filing a false police report. Or you can sue for harassment.

You shouldn't have a problem proving harassment if you have previous police reports. You won't get any compensation, since they are minors, but it should forestall future charges.

    1. never invite police and never never invite Children and family services to your home.

    2. I agree, deny anything and seek a restraining order against the boys.

If the police do continue an investigation, get an attorney and never answer any questions with the attorney.

Were the police called when the assaulted you.
