    Changing service
    Changing service disconnect. Service cable (1/0 aluminum) underground service is short by 2 ft for termination in new disconnect. Is it code compliant to splice (compress,butt) #1 copper(thhn)?

    Please be a little clearer.

    What service are you changing?

    Are you talking about the conductors from the transformer to disconnect? Or from the disconnect to main service panelboard?

    If those conductors are connected to a Power Company transformer then they are the property of the Power Company, why are you changing them? You need their permission to touch those feeders.

    You do realize that you would be working on live, unprotected conductors that could very easily kill you, don't you.

    Yes, at least where I am at, the power company always does those wires. If they need to be changed for new service panel, they will change them out after you replace the house feeds

    Don and Fr Chuck, Chuck is not asking about replacing the underground wiring, he is asking about extending the wire.

    There are pre-insulated mechanical connectors that use wrenches to splice large wire/cable, you are not limited to crimp style.
