The only song I can think of that's even remotely similar to what you've described is "Cherry Bomb." Originally by the Runnaways (1970's), it was covered by a bunch of artists including Joan Jett.

It reminds me of a song from the 60s or 70s... maybe dobie gray sang it. It was called Home or Come Home? I remember it being on the flip side of a juke box version of his "Drift Away" song a long time ago. I heard it in 73... but the song was older than that. Good luck.
