Yes, headaches are definitely a part of having diabetes. However, that is true only if your blood sugar is higher than it should be, lower than it should be or is fluctuating too much. My children are both type 1 diabetics. They were both diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when they were 8 years old. My son is no 24 and my daughter, 22. The only times they have headaches due to their diabetes is if their blood sugar is high - usually over 150 (and really bad ones when 200 or more) or when their blood sugars drop to around 60 or less.

Since you have not had diabetes that long, you may still be trying to get the right amount of eating vs. insulin down to a science. Have you been experiencing great fluxuations with your diabetes? Going from low to high or high to low? If so, that will cause your body to go through many different symptoms including headaches.

You might want to keep a record of when you have headaches and what your blood sugar was running (high or low) or whether it is a day when you have had a low blood sugar and gone back up or had high blood sugars and then gone down to see which - or all - that is affecting you, since all diabetics are different.

Of course, not every headache will be due to your blood sugar, especially if you tend to have them or you have sinus problems. But it will be a step in the right direction. Hope I have helped you and good luck!
