Do you have older children? How did they earn money at 11? Are you in a city, town, or in the countryside?

my own daughter is 10, she wants to save up for some computer game, the jobs she HAS to do are 1. keep her bedroom clean, 2. clean the upstairs bathroom... she gets nothing for doing those jobs, for extras jobs around the house she gets 50 cent to 1 euro per job depending on the task, example today she is going to help me in the garden, nothing to heavy,water the plants and a bit of weeding, for that she'll get 1 euro, so far this week she has earned 2 euro, any jobs and payment are agreed before hand, if she does not finish the job ,she decides to walk off etc, she gets nothing and still has to complete the task ( follow through!), my mother will also give her a few small jobs with the same rules applied.

if you have neighbours perhaps your child could cut the grass for a small price, or help out a young mother with the children ( always check this one out) an adult must be present, he/she is only there to help.

for me, it's a good way to learn about the value of money, and saving, these days everything is so instant, a child who has to save up will really take care of what they buy, it will also give them a sense of pride that they earned their prize!
