Protecting a house from negative spirits and bad karma?
I recently have decided to start looking for a new house. I have two small children and they need more room than the small yard and small house we currently live in. So I started looking and I found a large house in the country with lots of land. The house is over 100 years old but is in excellent condition and is fairly affordable. And I love history so this old house just seemed like a great opportunity for my family. The only problem is that I found out that when the house was built so long ago, there was a tree in the back yard that was the "town lynching tree". Now, my family is christian. We believe in God and Jesus and we go to church often. We are not racist, while most of my family is Caucasian, my family also has been mixed with African American, and Hispanic. We are what I like to call a "Rainbow". I do not want to pass up this opportunity, and the tree is no longer there, but I cannot help but to think about if there are any risks of angry spirits or any kind of evil presence's. So, what I was wondering was if there was anyone out there that might have any positive opinions for me, and/or any ideas on how to protect the house from negativity. Thank you.

Your Christian, right? My advice for you is to get to know your bible a little better. NO WHERE in His word did God tell us to fear "negative" or evil spirits. Respect, yes... fear no. In fact, quite the opposite is said. If you are a REAL follower of Jesus Christ He has given us authority over every evil power and we are told that nothing shall be able to come against us (Luke 10:19). The fact that you brought up karma is concerning as a Christian. Get your head out of the new age ideals of negative energies and karma and get your head into the Word... there you will be grounded. God really might be trying to bless you and your family with a beautiful home. Don't pass up this opportunity because of fear and ignorance.

Well, I went to look at the house today and it was torn apart, bedrooms and closets boarded up, and holes everywhere, walls and floors rotting etc... but taking this response into consideration, the thing is, I do consider myself a christian. I go to church, I believe in God, and Jesus, and I believe what the Bible says to be true. The thing is that it is said in the bible, can't remember where as I have no memorization skills, but it says to say "In the name of Jesus" or something like that. And I know that you have to speak with complete faith and all, but I sometimes question if my faith is strong enough, or as strong as other people's. Like should my faith be stronger? Do I believe the right way. Does what I believe make me a "Real Follower". Don't take what I am saying to be questioning my faith in God. But I do not want to disappoint HIM, this is something I struggle with a lot.

The first thing I think needs to be considered is the story about the tree true.
This could be an urban legend of sorts . A story that grows with the telling.

Even if is true there is no guarantee that is will be the center or cause of
    Paranormal activity.

Have you heard of anyone that has had any problems of this type at that location?

Many times it is the stories putting thoughts into peoples minds that cause them to look
For what they think is paranormal and mistake natural everyday things for what they think
    They will see.
The human mind can "see" what it wants to see , or expects to see.

I have experienced paranormal events. I do not doubt they happen everyday around the world.
But so many times it turns out to be explainable , start looking at rational and reasonable first.

Also as a christian I'd have the placed blessed first thing after signing the documents of sale
Even if there were no scary stories or rumors about the place.

Have you verified any of the information you received about the place?

I agree... towns do have plenty of urban myths... but like Martini said, even if it WAS true, it doesn't mean there will be any evil spirits on the property.

Mmugan, the bible does say a lot about those things. You're correct, we have been given the name of Jesus to use as our authoritative backing in those situations. But you have to understand that, like salvations, this authority is not something we earn. It, too, is a gift to THOSE THAT BELIEVE. If you don't believe it... if you don't trust God for it, it's not going to work. But if you claim to believe the bible like you say you do, then leave it in God's hands. At this point you haven't even experienced anything paranormal, so don't go in there expecting for it to happen. Just now how to handle it if it ever does.

Understand this about the Christian walk... nobody has EVER maxed out faith. I think one of the things that makes the great men of faith great is that they kept themselves humble and ever hungry for MORE of God. We cannot go through life comparing ourselves with others. It's just not a good way to live life... you will ALWAYS end in disappointment. My church was founded by one of the greatest men to do God's work in the 20th century... I can't measure up... I simply can't... but god never called us to measure up to other people. God calls us to holiness, but when we do mess up, when we do fall, when we are imperfect as we ALL are, that is where Jesus reaches out His hand and lifts us up. Remember this, we don't wear OUR righteousness, which is as filthy rags to God... every person who claims salvation through Jesus Christ wears HIS righteousness. That's called being covered in the Blood. That is when God doesn't see our mess up and imperfections... all He sees is the sacrifice of Blood that Jesus gave for us on the cross.

You want to know if what you believe makes you a REAL follower of Jesus Christ? Well really there are two different kinds of belief. There is the kind where you ACKNOWLEDGE God... and there is the kind where you FOLLOW God. Following God just means putting forth the effort. You're taking time to read the word, you're taking time to pray and seek His way in your life. This is the path of someone who is saved. The bible tells us the even the demons BELIEVE in God... and tremble! If you want to know if you have a real faith in God... look at the kind of belief you have in Him. And if you look at this belief and think it falls short... then by all means take care of that. The bible simply tells us to confess our sins to Him and He is FAITHFUL and JUST to forgive us of ALL unrighteousness. In my first response I didn't mean to make you doubt your faith in God... I just wanted you to take a step back and think about what you really believe. God didn't create the universe to function on karma and negative energies. We serve a powerful and personal God, and I encourage you to dig deeper into the relationship.

Yes, some stories are done to scare young kids, others, perhaps one or two people hung there, sadly in the US history, people where hung and dragged down roads, and shop, and drowned all over the place.

And there is a difference in ghosts and evil spirits that the bible would talk about. One of the easiest ways to get them in the house, is to start thinking about them, and worry about them. As a Christian we do not ( and not aware of any christian group) that teaches negative energies and karma, that is very new age and completely non christian teachings.

Thank you so much for your response. I try to put forth effort, go to church, and read the word, but sometimes it all gets scrambled up and it can be VERY hard to make sense of what it is saying. I mean I understand what is says, but it is sometimes hard to understand what the meaning behind some of it is.

Your picture is very creepy and no offense, but not very christian looking. But in fact quite the opposite.

Well, in most cases it means what it says. But if this is something you really want to understand there are many many great books out there or you could even talk to your pastor if there are specific issues you struggle to understand.

I am not contradicting you Padre I just want to point out that 'karma" and "the golden rule share some of the same aspects of teaching how we interact with others and "negative energy" in many cases resemble the effects and definition of demons .

Thanks Padre. What I was pointing out is strictly an idea of mine drawn from comparing the similarities in teachings of various religions.
