GA State Tax for H1B visa
    Hi,

I was working in NY for a company on my opt, they moved me to Atlanta in March-2011. I got my H1B on October 2011. Now I am confused what forms I have to file for GA states Taxes and what are the deductions or other details. Do I file as GA resident or Non-resident.

    I will appreciate any help.

If you are STILL in Georgia, you will file as a part-year resident of Georgia, paying taxes only on the income earned while in Georgia.

If you have returned to NY, then you will file as a non-resident, again paying taxes ONLY on income earned while working in Georgia.

In either case, you will gile GA Form 500.

If you need professional help filing, email me at [email protected].
