Hi, but before setting you off onto a full fledged fight with fleas, I must ask:

Did this kitten come with a Mother and litter mates, or was it a foundling, all alone and very helpless?

You need to get the fleas off the kitten by using a bath and a 'flea comb', which has fine teeth that will scoop a flea out of the hair. You may find one at the supermarket in the pet section, or probably Wal-Mart or pet store otherwise.

The Bath... Start with the head first. Just wetting the head will drive fleas back to drier parts. If you don't use soap, you won't have to rinse the head, which will please the kitten. On the rest of the kitten, Johnson's baby Shampoo probably won't kill fleas, but that's where the comb comes in. Don't use any commercial flea powders or sprays for older cats, or dogs, on the kitten.

If there are other cats or other pets (dogs) around, this is where the kitten got the fleas. If you got a foundling, you also got the fleas along with the kitten and should be all that there are in the kitten's environment. Meaning that there may not be any in the house.

After the first bath and combing, repeat the combing daily to catch any that may have jumped/fallen off the kitten before the first bath. If you repeatedly find none, that's a good sign, but keep checking at least once a week.

Here is a link about the flea, it's life cycle, and how to break it for successful elimination of them from the home.

Note that this is 10 years old and most of the chemicals are bordering on 'old time'.

2 weeks ago I adopted a week old kitten from a little girl who couldn't take care of it herself. It is now 3 weeks old (if her assessment of it's age was correct).
