If the mother goes to court to establish custody and support, then the court will order a test.

First, when posting a follow-up question or info, please use the Answer options at the bottom of the page rather than the Comments. Don't start a new question. I've merged the two threads.

Your second post provides a different story then your first post. If I follow you, the father acknowledged paternity when the child was born, but now that you are filing for a child support order he's claiming he may not be the father.

This is up to local laws. ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. In some areas, it may be too late for him to claim he isn't the father. In other areas he may be able to get a court to grant a paternity test. There are a number of factors here that might determine whether a court will grant a paternity test.

I'm wondering why you have waited 17 years to file for child support. In some ares you would only get support until the child is 18, so it would be less than a year.
