    Goodman air conditioner spring hookup
I have a Goodman Air Conditioning Unit. For three years I have asked for a "Spring Hookup." I am not from the north and have no idea what that means. I do know my heating works fine and my aircondtoning does not work at all.

I found a brown, almost like a wire you would see on an extension cord, wire wrapped up and sittting on the bottom of the Forced Air Unit. The company, after promising to come out and "hook me up", now says they will do it for a price. I can manually force the ac to work by pulling off the cover and pressing a start switch that is stated as being for first time start ups.

I have a red, green, and white, very thin, wires that are in this brown conduit. The other end goes back to my AC unit, they supply the go no go on turning the ac on and for how long until they disconnect the power.

I have no idea where I am to hook these wires up at, straight to the thermostat, color to color, or to the main control board?

    Chris

Sorry posted in the wrong area. Also, do I turn my thermostat from gas to electrical and shut off my gas line?

One wire goes to common on transformer and the other goes to Y or yellow from t-stat. It should have never been disconnected. This sounds like a scam because I have been an AC mechanic for over 35 years and have never heard of this. The outside unit should be left hooked up all the time. Two of those wires go to each side of the contactor coil inside the condensing unit outside, the green wire goes to nothing. When 24 volts is supplied to contactor the compressor comes on with the condenser fan motor. It's very simple. From the transformer one wire is common and the other one goes to R or red on T-stat. The wires from contactor are hooked one to common and the other to "Y" or yellow from t-stat. "W" is heat and "G" is fan relay. You did not say whether the unit was a split or a package unit. Tell me what you find and get a meter and I can walk you through it if you email me at [email protected]. DrTom4444

Thank you so much. Yes I found out te hardway that this was a very non-reputab;e company. I have replaced main board, and the ignitor. It is only 3 years old. One year my heatin bills were $300/month. When the weather go warmer, I went underneath and found the ducting for ALL registers unhooked. I asked them why didn't they hook up my registers and was told I said I would. I asked them why would they be under my house, run the ducting to my reisters, and drop it right there, when right above was the register? Trust me, I am spreading the word for folks to stay away from them.
