Had a contractor pour concrete in nov. 29 to dec. 5, 2010. I see cracking, flaking, cracks through 11`` sections. He told me he poured in jan. all the time and never had a problem. I`m getting this feeling he`s lying. Can you answer this about the cold. Paul

What was the temperature during the pour? Where are you located?

He's pulling a fast one here. He knew the day he poured it was too cold and decided to go ahead anyway hoping the pour wouldn't turn out bad.

Tell him he's full of hot air and you want it FIXED now or you'll take his lying a$$ to court and sue him to get him to redo this.

Any concrete contractor with any brains does NOT pour when the temp is too cold. Common sense.

Did you pressure him to pour that day or did he decide on his own to make this mess for you? If you pressured him he should have said no, let's wait till it's a bit warmer to do the pour. If he just poured it when it was way too cold out you've got him by the shorts.

My late husband worked in concrete for years and would have never poured in weather that was too cold or rain or snowed that same day.

Did it snow or rain the day it was poured? That just added to the problem you are now experiencing. Concrete contractors watch the weather like a hawk and do not pour when too cold or will snow or rain later in the day. Too much moisture from snow or rain will definitely ruin a good pour a few hours after concrete was poured not letting it cure or set up properly.

Also, if it was that late in the season for pouring, did he COVER up the pour against the cold, rain or snow or did he leave it uncovered? That also can play a big part in concrete flaking, cracking as well when poured in cold weather.
