You must be 18 to go into a tattoo parlor to get a tattoo by yourself. Some tattoo shops agree that 16+ is okay with parental consent and they must be there for the procedure. Also some tattoo shops do have restrictions and won't allow it no matter what.

If you get a tattoo at 14, I 100% guarantee you that you will regret it later. Your body has not finished growing so it could distort the tattoo as well.

Tattoos need thought and care put into them, if you just go into the shop and pick a design from a book then it's likely you won't want it later and have to get it either tattoo'd over or lasered off and believe me, getting laser treatment on a tattoo is very painful.

Why do you want a tattoo at your age anyway? What's the harm in waiting?

If you think of ideas now and you still have those ideas by 18 then perhaps go and get inked. You're only 14; your opinions, perceptions and inspirations change all the time.. If you think it'll impress your friends or make you look cooler, it won't. Have respect for your body while it is still growing. Tattoos at your age give off very very very bad impressions.

Also, not to mention, if you were planning on getting it without parents permission it's likely you'll end up in a dodgey tattoo shop in some back street and getting some ugly piece of artwork branded onto you.

So until you are old enough I suggest you put this idea of getting a tattoo aside and do something better with your time, money and body.

It depends on the culture, I see nothing wrong with a tribal tattoo for a 14 year old's rite of passage in another culture, but in western culture, a 14 year old shouldn't be getting tattoos.
