I just purchased at auction an original oil painting the appears to be very old but can't find anything much about the artist or the prints age and I am hoping some of you more experienced art lovers might help me. Any info or idea's would be greatly appricated! I could be mis-reading the signiture. Thanks for anything!

Hi! There have been several artists by the last name of Pisani, from completely different eras. Could you possibly upload a picture of the painting to get an idea of what time we´re talking about?

There is a Pisani or Pisanello from the 15th century, but looking at your painting I'm pretty sure it's not that old.

Here is a painter who also signs his name F. Pisani; it could be the same one, though the painting in the link I gave you looks a little more recent in style. If it were the same one, you might be able to get an idea of the painting's worth from the link I gave you.

Thanks Young... I'm no expert, I wouldn't think 15th century either, I do believe 18th or 19th, the frame and canvas seems to put it in that time frame. I had someone tell me it's called "the lovers" but there are a thousand out there with that name. The link you send me to seems to me that the forest is the subject matter with the people as a blurred back ground, where this one is more people in motion as the subject. Thanks for answering!

I have an old oil painting with what appears to be the same signature on the front. The painting is of an old fisherman. When I get my batteries charged I will take a pic and post. On the back of the painting a note signed by the same person in pencil only it is signed Prof. F. Pisani with a phone number of Plaza 5-6709 and an address of 851 3rd Ave. 51st and 52 St. The way it was framed is very similar to the one posted.

I have a painting with same signature (it is of Polo players ) that is on your Copy of a painting title the Storm that hangs in the metropolitan museum of art by Pierre Auguste Cot DONE IN 1880 that is the original---

He was not a bad painter but I know little more about him

I have a 12" X 16' by the exact F. Pisani signature. The scene is of a forest with almost a 3 dimensional effect. His mastery of depth perception is amazing. The artist is outstanding and the piece appears to be very old. I have not been able to find anything on the artist.

I think that is the signature of my husbands great grandfather... He was an art professor at Columbia and we have many of his paintings... There were several sold in the mid 1900"s... Not sure but the signature is pretty much the same...
