Bad conduct discharge?
Curious about something? I did something real dumb 2 years ago... I went to bootcamp with the armed forces and after I graduated bootcamp I went awol... it was a very dumb decision... and Im ashamed of it. Since I got my bad conduct discharge... I have done much to make a new life. I tried the military but was horrible at it. Since I came back home.. I have got 2 jobs... nothing like career wise but Im only 20... am in college... and I volunteer at my church. Can I still have a great life with a great job? I have been told just not to disclose your military records on applications. I was told only a federal background check can get your military records... and I didn't get a dishonorable just a bad conduct. It hasn't effected me so far but I don't think a background check was issued on the jobs I had before... I worked as a ranch foreman and part time at walmart. I also have a dreamto move to a diff country... will the discharge I received be found by the country in question... I heard people with DUIS can't even get into Canada but you... some help please?

It will not show up on a criminal or credit back ground search.
Unless specifically asked and they do a military records search it will not show up. ** your discharge**
Will it effect you if you go for a job that requires a national security background search. YES.

Thank you so much! I have gotten financial aid for college so I am not worried about that along with scholarships. Will it effect me possibly moving to Canada one day? Can I go to law school with it on my record?

Yes.
But assuming you get your J.D. on your application for admission to the bar you would have to disclose the bad conduct discharge. I don't think it will disqualify you, but it will be considered.
