    Pool Grounding
I am replacing my above ground pool. I've read several blogs about grounding/bonding the pool. The old pool was grounded/bonded as such:

The pump plugs into a GFCI outlet that runs to it's own circuit panel in my garage. A copper wire then ran from the GFCI outlet to all metal componets along the perimeter of the pool. NO wire ran from the external grounding screw to... anywhere.

Was this hooked up correctly? I'm concerned that, based on what I've read, this is not correct.

My current understanding is that the copper wire from the outlet should be grounded to a log rod driven into the ground. Then, I should run a separate copper wire from the pump's external grounding screw to all metal components of the pool, thus bonding it. Do I need to do this second portion, or is my initial set up all set?

All pumps and metal parts should be connected to the wire

Do not drive a ground rod. As suggested, all metal parts get connected together with a #8 solid copper wire and connect to the lug that is on the exterior of the pump.

He is right, basically what he is saying is that because the motor is grounded through it's own wiring that connecting other metal items such as ladders and filters they will be grounded as well

Thanks for the help guys. This coupled with the research I've done gives me what I need.

In short, the GFCI outlet IS properly grounded. I took the cover off the pump and the pump itself IS grounded as well.

Now, all that needs to be done is to bond all of the metal parts to the bonding lug located on the exterior casing of the pump.
