    Concrete paint chipped
My husband pained our concrete patio last year w/ concrete paint from Home Depot. It chipped (a lot) over the winter so I wanted him to stain it this year but he doesn't want to remove the paint - he just wants to paint over it, but I'm figuring that it will just chip again. Can it be stained w/o removing the paint? Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

No, it can't. Mine had to be sandblasted before any other paint/stain could be applied. (I used a professional service.)

Ugh. But thanks for the answer. Do you know if, after he re-paints it... is there some type of sealer that we can use to prevent it from chipping?? Thanks again!

I agree with Judy, once painted it stays painted unless totally removed. The entire patio should be power washed and etched, especially the exposed concrete. BTW its not really chipping, its flaking due to poor adhesion. If you had visited us prior to the painting most of us would tell you to not paint exterior concrete. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q0QjqzIl3A
