If you really overheated it you likely warped the head already. Any engine that has an aluminum head is VERY sensitive to being overheated even once.

When that happens its going to continue to happen until you hydro-lock the engine and destroy it if it isn't taken care of ASAP by a professional.

The coolant goes into the radiator. And what do you mean by "Continue where I'm headed"? Are you in the middle of a long trip? Do you have a new car ordered and due for delivery soon? And are you will to risk destroying the engine to delay what HAS to be done.

The answer to that matters as to what you might be able to do temporarily.

There are a lot of things that may be the root cause of this... none of which you are going to be able to diagnose or take care of yourself. Based on what I see as your level of mechanical knowledge.

Have someone show you where the radiator cap is... before you leave anyplace when its still cold make sure its full of a 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water. You can buy it all ready to use like that. Keep trips short, don't run the A/C. if it starts getting hot... put the heater on full and open the windows... that will help bring the temps down. Hopefully you can make it last until then.

But there are no guarantees. If you have a head gasket leaking it can force coolant into the cylinder and then even worse things can happen.
