    subletting due to job relocation?
    I have a shared ownership flat. I initially refused to relocate, but have changed mind due to no luck finding work in London. I have chance to change my mind by end of month, but it means I will miss out on relocation pkg which then means I will be squeezed financially as I have debts. In order to keep my flat ( as want to move back to London eventually as family etc there) I want to sub-let it. What are my chances of Housing Assoc. agreeing and 2 being able to keep all money from rent. My flat is in quite a desirable area so hoping to charge going rate for area, which is more than mortgate in hope it will pay for both properties. Therefore, I will be able to concentrate on paying off debt agreements. Debts = one of reasons I am deciding to relocate so I have income to pay off. Whilst I have salary for a year if take redundancy it will be swallowed up by debts so leaving me in uncertain position re mortgage and rent if I don't find another job. Alternatively if I live on redundo money, debts won't have gone down. Help!

    We can't possible know what your 'chances' are with the HO without reading their rules. If you lost your copy, get another one, or since the clock is ticking, run around on foot and by phone and start finding out.

    You also forgot to tell us who you are sharing ownership with, and what that person has to say.

    I'm in total agreement with "Joy." What does the Agreement say? Are you allowed to sublet?

    After that, what does your roommate think about all of this?

    Inability to pay or a need to conserve money is not a legal excuse to break a contract.

    You are the owner of the flat. So generally you would have the right to rent it out for the going rate. However, as the others have said, if the Housing Assoc rules prohibit non owner occupancy, then they can deny it.

    I'm going to assume, since you think you need to ask the Housing Assoc for permission to rent the flat (and this isn't a sub-let since you are the owner, not a renter) that there are rules that you didn't inform us about.
