    Tension on wire

    (A) A rigid, vertical rod of negligible mass is connected to the floor by a bolt through its lower end, as shown in the figure. The rod also has a wire connected between its top end and the floor. If a horizontal force F is applied at the midpoint of the rod, find (a) the tension in the wire, and (b) the horizontal and (c) the vertical components of the force exerted by the bolt on the rod.
    (B) Now assume that the rod has a mass M and that its bottom end simply rests on the floor, held in place by static friction. If the coefficient of static friction is s, find
    The maximum force F that can be applied to the rod at its midpoint before it slips.
    (C) In the above setup of the rod (in B), show that if F is applied 1/8 of the way down from the top of the rod and the coefficient of static friction in 1/7, the rod will never slip, no matter how large the force F.
