What is the best diet to avoid a recurrence of a sigmoid volvulus
    Hello.
I recently had a sigmoid volvulus that was successfully reduced with sigmoidoscopy. I asked several of the residents taking care of me regarding the best diet to follow and received inconsistent and sometimes contrary opinions. Searching online I understand why.

Almost every site describes constipation as a significant contributing factor for causing a sigmoid volvulus. Additionally a portion of sites fault high fiber diet as a potential cause and others speak of laxative use as a factor that can predispose to recurrent volvulus.

This information beckons the question "What is the best diet to avoid a recurrence of a sigmoid volvulus"
How does one avoid constipation and fiber and laxatives at the same time. What variety of foodstuffs would best avoid a recurrence?

I guess this could be addressed by surgeons, gastroenterologists or dietitians/nutritionists.
    Thank you for your input.

This is best addressed by a Physician who is familiar with your history and treatment. I also see a LOT of different opinions. I'd find one Physician you trust and go with that Physician's recommendations.

This is nothing to fool with and ultimately was the cause of my husband's death. By the time the Doctors realized it (and this was his third bout) and performed surgery it was too late.

I would not take take Internet advice from strangers when the problem could be deadly.
