    Hi Dspez:

If the washing machine drain is 2" in size then yes, you can use it for a shower drain.

You would, of course, eliminate the washer ptrap above the floor and install a new 2" PTRAP (with cleanout if accessible from underneath) directly under the new shower strainer.

In terms of venting the shower... as long as the washer drain has a vent you can use that to vent the shower as well... connect to the shower drain within 5 feet of the PTRAP. The shower drain MUST have a vent.

More questions... let us know, OK?

Dspes, are you asking about adding a shower drain to your washer drain and keeping the washer, or are you eliminating the washer and just want to use the drain and vent for the shower? If the latter, Mark is correct and you should follow his advice. If you are planning on keeping the washer, you will still be able to tie into the washer drain(below the floor), but will need to add a vent and trap to the shower as stated above.

    Good distinction Lee (MGD77)...

When I reread it, I think you are right... probably looking to connect a shower into an existing washing machine drain that is staying.. ;)

Dspez... please elaborate here... what size is the existing washer drain and are you intending to keep both the washer drain and a new shower connection?

The more you can tell us the better!

    Back to you...
