Before I say anything in more detail about my problem I suppose I should provide some background on myself.
-I am a 21 year old female
-I am slightly overweight but otherwise in perfect health
-I have regular menstrual cycles and I keep track of them.
-I have had a regular sexual history with multiple partners.
-My last OBGYN appointment was just under 6 months ago and I came back with a clean bill of health.
-I have never had unprotected sex. Always used a condom.

Last night I had sex with a new partner for the first time. Before that it had been over a year since my last sexual encounter and I have never had a "dry spell" that long. I have heard that it is possible for the hymen to grow back over time and be ruptured again the next time penetration occurs. That is possible since I haven't done any of the normal activities that could re-break it such as horseback riding, masturbation, or bike riding. However I also understand that the breaking of the hymen usually does not result in much blood so I doubt that is my problem.

About an hour or two after we had been intimate I started bleeding very heavily, more so than any period I've ever had. There were large blood clots also. I came home immediately and cleaned myself up before going to bed. I continued to bleed however and have gone through several very large tampons in the space of a few hours. The bleeding doesn't go constantly, more like sudden very heavy spurts of it that flow for up to a half hour before stopping, those spurts however are still heavier than any period I've ever had.

I do believe my period is supposed to start in three days or less, but certainly not today. The sex was rather rough but I don't believe my partner was "well endowed" enough to have torn my cervical lining. I have no STDs and have had no way to contract one since my last sexual encounter. I have had my HPV shot as well. I am regularly active and my diet is mostly on the healthy side. Is there any answer to this or any chance that my period was just triggered early by having sex for the first time in so long?
