    Confused regarding filing 1040NR
    Hi Experts,
I came to CA, US in Oct 2010 on L1B for the first time. In 2010, I was in UK for first 8 months and almost 2 months in India. I am married and have a child. My wife and son came to US in March 2011. Can I file taxes as "Married filing jointly"? My wife has applied for EAD and does not have SSN right now. I guess it will take time to figure all this out, so I am planning to file extension (4868?).
    1) Do I need to file two 4868 forms(1 for me and 1 for my wife)?
    2) Do I need to file extension for State tax as well?

Please advice as tomorrow (18th) is the last date!

    Thanks

    Another Question:
In Form 4868, how do I fill 4 ("Estimate of total tax liability for 2010")?
    1) Is this calculation based on 1040 NR or 1040 "Filing jointly"?
According to Turbotax, I should be paying 0 federal tax (1900 refund) when filing as "Married filing jointly".

    2) Should I put this figure in 4 or should I calculate it based on NR status?

    Thanks
