I was caught by police for theft at Zellers. Will I get a criminal record?
    I'm 21.
I got caught by police for theft at Zellers in mississauga about 2 weeks ago for $29 Value.
It was my first time. I know I have done teffrible things and I regret it so much.
I am willing to pay for fines or chrages if I have to.
But I'm scared if I'll get a criminal record and get too much of fines.
I was told that I'll get a phone call to my cell in 2 weeks
and will receive a letter by mail within a month.
They also made me to sign for forms that Zellers can ask me for over $5000 fine
and might have to go to court.

I'm living in mississauga now and the address on my ID was the place where my parents live.

    1. Is there any way to receive that letter to my place?
    2. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't gotten any calls from police.
What should I do? Will I get a criminal record?
Will I have to hire a lawyer?
Will I have to go to court?
WIll Zellers ask me for a fine? Over $5000?
If I pay the fine, will I not get a criminal record?
Do I pay for going to court?
    3. I had a plan to go to NY city next weekends with my friends
which was planned from last year only for 3 days.

Can I go to NY with this record?
Will I need a Canadion pardon or US entry waiver?
    4. Is there any numbers I can reach for help?

I'm really scared and in panic..
I have learned my lesson and I won't do it ever again.
    Please Please help..
    Thanks.

    1. Is there any way to receive that letter to my place?
You will receive mail at the address you provided the police

    2. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't gotten any calls from police.
What should I do? Will I get a criminal record?
If you are charged with a crime and are found guilty or plead guilty you will have a record unless you get a first offender program

Will I have to hire a lawyer? You never have to hire one, you should but no one forces you to

Will I have to go to court? If you are charged with a crime yes you will

WIll Zellers ask me for a fine? Over $5000?
Most likely they will ask for 400 to 800 dollars as a penalty ( they call it a fine to make you think it is not just a fee they charge for catching you

If I pay the fine, will I not get a criminal record? The fee the store charges you has nothing to do with what the police can also do

Do I pay for going to court?
If you are charged with a crime, and found guility you will have additional fines and court costs from the court

    3. I had a plan to go to NY city next weekends with my friends
Which was planned from last year only for 3 days.

Can I go to NY with this record?
You are not guilty of anything, in fact you have not been charged with a crime, so you can travel at this time

Will I need a Canadion pardon or US entry waiver?
    4. Is there any numbers I can reach for help?
You can hire an attorney, or if charged, ask for a public defender

I'm really scared and in panic..
Yes, the old saying, you do the crime you do the time, now you have to wait and see what happens

I have learned my lesson and I won't do it ever again.
    Please Please help..
    Thanks.[/QUOTE]

But I haven't got any calls or letters yet.

    1. Does this mean the police and Zellers decided to forgive me
And I don't need to pay for fines or go to court?

    2. Do I get a criminal record? Or shoplifting record?

    3. I am going to Buffalo,U.S with friends tmr for 2days
Will I be stopped by the police because of this?

Will I have any trouble travelling to Buffalo?

    4. Will I have to contact somewhere to find out
Why I'm not getting any calls/letters?

    5. Or would calling make it worse?

    Please Please help asap
    Thanks in advance.
It's been almos 40 days and I haven't heard anything..

If Canadian mail works like it works in the US, you can do a change of address form with the post office.

First when posting a follow-up question or info, please use the Answer options at the bottom of the page rather than the Comments do not start new questions (use the Ask box). Also please do not keep repeating the same questions.

If you have not been contacted by the police, then there is no arrest record yet, so no impediment to your traveling.

As for the rest of it, just wait it out. Its possible Zellers has dropped it figured they scared your appropriately. Or it could be the wheels of justice grinding slowly.
