    Section 8
My tenant and her granddaughter lived in my rental house and she was on Section 8. The grandmother just passed away. What happens with the rental. We have 10 more months left on the lease.

How is the lease rented ? Is the estate liable for it ?

Does the granddaughter want to keep the lease.

Is the lease written specificly to be for section 8 since it now ends, and the grand daughter if she stay
Will have to pay full price unless she qualifies for section 8.

Was section 8 aware someone else was living there ?

Thanks for the reply. The grand daughter is only 12 to 14 years old. I don't know who will be responcable for her. And yes she was also on the lease.

    Hello T:

The responsible party is no longer around. Your lease ended with her death. Of course, the child isn't responsible. If Sec. 8 sends more checks, I'll bet they're going to want them back after they're informed of the grandmothers demise.

I suggest that you speak to her representative immediately. And as for her grand daughter, she would have been on the Section 8 voucher which gives her fulls right to use it, but depending on her age, she would have to be over 18. And no the lease does not end because someone died. If the grand daughter is over 18 you still have a lease and legally she would have had to of been on the Section 8 voucher to live there. I'm sure that you are aware of all the paperwork that goes to Section 8 when your tenant has Section 8. Even if Section 8 reviews the situation and they deny to continue the program with the grand daughter they are still in a lease with you and would have to compensate you monetarily and then you would also still be in the lease with the grand daughter which means then that she would have to provide you with the cost of rent. I feel so sorry about your situation and hope that this helps.
