Divorce law
My husband and I have been separated for 10+ years, we have no assets to split, we have one son who will be 18 in a few months, but we are both broke and were wondering if there was a free divorce where you both just sign papers, if there is no argument on either side, and no need for a lawyer, and we are both financially strapped right now, is there a very cheap way to do this? Thank you :)

ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

Its called an uncontested divorce. And they are pretty cheap to get done. But its always best to use a lawyer. If you both agree and your child has reached beyond the age of majority then its not that hard to get done.

Yes, if you both agree and no trouble with any terms I still recommend an attorney, normally it can be done for 300 to 500 plus court costs.
They do sell some basic "do it yourself" kits on line, but since it can effect so much latter, use an attorney or paralegal to fill out the paper work

Depending on the locality it could be as cheap as court costs only.

We paid $100 filing fee in 1994 in MA.
We copied a friend's papers and just put our names in. Don't expect the court to let you just sail right through though. The person next in line got grief over his papers.
Assembly line: pay money, have papers checked, talk to judge for a minute, all in a row.
It may be different in your state, or in this day and age.
Arrange a date that is after your son turns 18.

I am currently in the middle of a nasty divorce from my ex wife. The house that we lived in for 15 years was given to both of us as a wedding present from her parents who are both still alive. Both our names are on the deeds and we have a small mortgage on it which was used to clear off some debts...
