If I am 17 1/2, and I live in the state of Ohio, can I move out of my mom's house?
I'm not looking for judging. I'm not looking for a lecture. I'm not looking to move out. I just have a few friends pressuring me to move out when I am 17 1/2 and telling me that the cops can't do anything, they can't bring me back home, that they leave it alone. I hate being told something and not knowing whether it's true or not.. so is what I have heard true, or is it people just telling me false information?

Its not true! Until you reach 18 your parents are responsible for you. If you leave home, you can be classed as a runaway.

But more important then that is you can't really do anything until you are 18. You cannot enter into a contract until then. Which means you can't sign a lease or enter into a contract.

Several things as Scott said can happen, first yes, the police can get you and take you home, but they also may take you to Juv detention if your parents try and have you declared deliquent. ** depending on location,**

You can also be taken before the judge, and if there are any punishments it can extend past your 18th birthday

As noted you can not sign any contracts so you can not rent a home, get electric, or anything until you are 18.
