    Dad died stepmother away cannot come back for funeral

    My wife's dad passed away this week stepmum is to ill to travel back she is in new zeland how does the wife manbe or stand on paying for this when there is money in her dads bank and would she inherite his money as cannot find a will

    It depends on where the dad resided when he died. You have given no clue, that I can detect, as to where that might be.

    What do you mean by "paying for this"? Paying for what? Funeral expenses? If it were in the 'states, she would apply with the probate court, be appointed personal represenative, be issued letters of administration, and with those she would be able to access the funds in the bank. Other countries probably have a similar process.

    Normally, a widow has the right to inherit a certain portion, of not all, of her husband's estate, whether there is a will.

    And her ability to physically return to the place where he died has no bearing on the legal issues involved. Anything she could do in person she could do through an attorney (or solicitor).
